CLACTON ARCHERS

There was  a long history of Archery in the Clacton area before Clacton Archers opened the present club in 1970 to amalgamate all the various interests. The present club caters for all types of archery with Recurve, Compound and  Longbow archers catered for.

The club is connected to both Archery GB (formerly GNAS) and The National Field Archery Association with a separate, strong Field Archery section.

The club meets twice a week throughout the year: outdoors at Thorpe le Soken during the summer and indoors at Clacton Leisure Centre during the winter months. The field is avaliable throughout the year for really hardy archers.

The shooting times are 10.00 on Sunday morning but we try to get down for about 9.30 to help set up the targets. It is at Clacton leisure centre during the winter months and at our shooting grounds at Thorpe Hall for the Spring to Autumn Season. We also shoot on a Wednesday Evenings at Burrs Hall during the winter and this starts at 7.00pm but please try to get down for 6.45 and in the summer from the beginning of May to the beginning of September at our shooting grounds and this starts around 6.00 -6.30pm

Two open Tournaments are organised each year under the auspices of Archery GB: an indoor event in January and an outdoor one in July, both attracting competitors from far afield.

The club is known in the area among charities and other fund raising organisations for running Have – A – Go  events around the area with the takings being divided between the club (to help club funds) and the organisation concerned.

The club is proud of the fact that among its members we have two qualified coaches. These personnel mean that new comers to archery or novices in the sport can be given first class coaching in order to obtain the necessary experience to qualify for Archery GB membership and shoot unsupervised at club meets,
